That's rabbit food.

A Carrot is a common Vegetable. It can most often be found growing naturally in the ground, but these won't respawn after being picked. Carrots can also be Farmed by planting Seeds for a 31.6% chance of growing or using Carrot Seeds (Oblong Seeds), and they can be Cooked on a fire for extra health when eaten (see below) or used as an ingredient in several Crock Pot recipes.

Carrots have a few miscellaneous interactions and uses. Carrots can be given to Bunnymen to befriend them, and underground they can also be obtained by deconstructing Rabbit Hutches with a Hammer or Deconstruction Staff, yielding five Carrots per Rabbit Hutch (Ten with the staff). Feeding a Carrot to a Bird in a Birdcage will produce 1–2 Carrot Seeds, as well as a 50% chance for 1 regular Seed. In Don't Starve Together, you will always get 1 Carrot Seed. Carrots will also lure Rabbits towards them, whether as bait for Traps, or simply dropped. This can be useful for getting Morsels, as the Rabbits will not run away when eating a Carrot dropped on the ground. However, if they are not taken care of, they will consume the entire carrot. Rabbits will not eat Carrots if they are left planted in the ground.

Roasted Carrot[]

A Roasted Carrot is a Vegetable Food item made by Cooking a Carrot on a CampfireFire Pit, or Star. It restores slightly more Health than its raw counterpart. It can be used as an ingredient in several Crock Pot recipes.

Carrots are renewable in this branch of the game, thanks to World Regrowth. Once a Carrot has been destroyed (likely eaten), after 20 days, another carrot will attempt to spawn within a 5-tile radius of its original location. If too close to an entity, within 5 tiles of a base structure or wall, if a player is within 16 tiles, or if it is Winter or Night, it will wait another 20 days.

Feeding a Carrot to a Bird in a Birdcage will produce 1 Carrot Seeds.

Carrots can be used with Papyrus to craft a Cookbook.

Carrots can be used to befriend Bunnymen and they can also be used to befriend Merms as Wurt or while wearing the Clever Disguise.

Carrot Plant[]

For detailed farming informations, see Farm Plant.

The Carrot Plant is an object exclusive to Don't Starve Together, introduced in the Reap What You Sow update. It can be obtained by planting Oblong Seeds (also named Carrot Seeds, if researched with the Gardeneer Hat) into Farm Soil or on the ground as Wormwood. There is a chance to grow a Carrot Plant by planting regular Seeds.

The plant's favourite seasons are Autumn, Winter and Spring, so in Summer it will grow slower and accumulate more Stress points. It will consume 0.0075 units of water per second (0.45/min or 3.5/day) and 4 units of Growth Formula for every growth stage in return of 2 units of manure and compost.

When harvesting in the full stage, it will give 1 Carrot and 0-2 Oblong/Carrot Seeds depending on the amount of stress points the plant accumulated. It can also grow to a Giant Crop, if the plant accumulated only 0-1 stress points. When picked and hammered, it will drop 2-3 Carrots and 2-3 Oblong/Carrot Seeds.

The Carrot stays 4 days on the plant before rotting and the Giant Carrot stays 6 Days on the plant. If it have been planted by Wormwood, it lasts 50% longer before spoiling. Picking the plant in its rotten stage will give 1 Rot (normal) or 3 Rot and 1 Carrot Seed (giant). After 4 to 5 days of beeing in the rotten stage, a non-giant Carrot Plant grows back, but the new plant cannot become giant.

When picking up a rotten plant, a Fruit Fly has a 5% chance to spawn.

Silver Bowl The Gorge[]

In The Gorge event of Don't Starve Together, Carrots are grown from Oblong Seeds which can be bought from Pipton for one Old Coin. They are used in a variety of Cooking Recipes exclusive to The Gorge.

Prototype Tips[]

  • Since planted Carrots never spoil, they can be used as an emergency food supply. And since they do not respawn, not picking them until it is necessary improves availability of food during times when food sources are otherwise scarce. However, it is worth considering during the second year that the Bearger can pick them.
  • Although Carrots can make good bait for many Rabbits, one must be careful, as Rabbits can overwhelm the traps and waste the Carrot.
  • Carrots do respawn in Spring. (DST only)
  • Players should collect a decent amount of carrots and leave some spare carrots, as it takes a long time to rot (10 days) as it will help with Hunger early on in the game.
