The Construction Amulet is a craftable item found in the Ancient Tab. It requires 1 Green Gem, 3 Nightmare Fuel and 2 Thulecite, and at least a Broken Ancient Pseudoscience Station to craft. It also can randomly drop from an Ancient Pseudoscience Station when the latter is damaged with a Hammer, Gunpowder/Slurtle Slime etc. Like all items from the Ancient Tab, Construction Amulets cannot be prototyped and Characters always need to be near an Ancient Pseudoscience Station to craft them again.

While having it equipped in the chest slot, crafting items requires half the materials they would normally consume, rounded up. It degrades by 20% each time an item is crafted. It will also provide the player with a passive +2Sanity Meter per minute.

Common Uses[]

Each use of the Construction Amulet is a trade-off: 1/5 the cost of the amulet is spent to decrease the cost of constructing another item (the amulet has 5 uses). The scarcity of green gems makes the Construction Amulet worth saving to craft items that require doubles (or triples, quadruples...) of hard-to-find resources.

The Deconstruction Staff, Lazy Explorer and Star Caller's Staff should always be crafted with this amulet (The first to conserve the rare green gems, the other two to conserve the similarly rare yellow and orange gems). The Thulecite Suit, Crown, and Club are generally crafted with this amulet as well (the suit can be deconstructed to make more thulecite). Other crafting recipes may benefit in specific circumstances.

Resources vary from world to world and early vs. late game. The time spent gathering a resource (butterfly wings, green gems, thulecite, steel wool, living logs, etc.) is hard to account for, as is the benefit of crafting something otherwise unachievable early in the game. The following table analyzes a few common uses, roughly from best use to worst. The last 2 rows are generally unfavorable as explained in footnotes.

  1. Living logs, nightmare fuel, and gold are generally more plentiful than the partial gem and thulecite, but a 4x 4x 8x crafting recipe lends itself to being halved in the right circumstance. In a solo Wurt world, 4 gold might be more scarce than a partial green gem (Wurt can't trade with the Pig King). Wurt might need to create gold by constructing/deconstructing Telelocator Foci.
  2. Avoid crafting additional construction amulets using the first one. A green gem is at least three times as rare as thulecite. If thulecite is scarce, it's more efficient to construct and deconstruct Thelucite Suits (assuming you have the 3 thulecite to construct the first suit).

Explanation

Since the amulet has 5 uses, 1/5 of its construction cost is consumed with each use: Green Gem×0.2 Thulecite×0.4 Nightmare Fuel×0.6. Base Cost is the cost without the amulet. Cost With Amulet takes half the base cost of construction and adds 1/5 of the amulet's construction cost. The Net Cost and Net Savings columns illustrate the trade-off of using the amulet: what you spend and what you gain.

Conclusion

Desperate times call for desperate measures. Depending on world resources and player goals, other worthwhile uses might include the Weather Pain, Beanbooster Circuit, Winged Sail, Ice Flingomatic, bunny and pig houses... Any of these could also be combined with the Deconstruction Staff to quickly double less common resources (see the Wurt/Telelocator-Focus/Gold example above).

Placeholder Trivia[]

  • The Construction Amulet shares the same in-game model with the Life Giving Amulet but its gem is green instead of red.

Mosquito Bugs[]

  • When left with only 20% durability remaining (its last use), the Amulet's effect will only partially work. The amulet will properly allow the player to completely build something with only the first half of its normal material cost. However, it will erroneously cause the second half of the cost to be consumed as well, if the player has the materials.
