I'd just like to know how you made Mentalbot, and what code and stuff you used to make it, since your the only one with an active bot left, so I'd like to just... know so I can keep the message if Mentalbot ever goes inactive.
I registered a normal account and then made a request to the Wikia Inc. They usually grant you bot rights as long as you are admin/bureaucrat, or you give them good reasons. I am not very good at those scripts, so I only use AutoWikiBrowser to do mass edits. It's a very good tool for bot beginners.
So it's possible to get a bot by simply contacting the staff? That's great.
I've always wanted a bot to do repetitive mass edits in short spaces of time (and probably outright needed one for this to be implemented. Thanks to Anemicne's bot, we could do it), but at the moment I feel like its usefulness is limited since we're not updating several templates or introducing new features. I'm aware there are other abilities, but the main one I was looking for was this one.
I can read some codes and understand them to a certain degree, but I'm not experienced enough to actually write one myself yet and never knew you could get one by contacting the staff. That's why I never got a bot so far.
The comment section has become very inapropriate, I am new to this so I don't know if I need to ask but I just want to get some permission to change the trivia to say they are spores or something other than genetalia.
Should the old applications for positions be kept around? I see applications over a year old. and I remember hitting those pages when I used to have time to click "random" to browse the wiki. Should we at least combine them somewhere as an archive? Also it may be a good idea to not have the application in the main namespace. They are not wiki articles after all. I don't know, just random thoughts, what do you guys think? (I'm assuming Deiaa would also see this, I can move this elsewhere if needed).
I remember getting them when I use the random page button, too, and I agree about not leaving them as they are right now. We could either delete them or make an archive page for them like the polls. I personally prefer the latter.
Hey, I am not very active recently so sorry for the late reply.
I think there is a Guides/Winter Guide which basically explains what you can do to maximise your survival chance. The guide may be a bit outdated but it certainly helps you a lot :)
From my experience, I will try to build 4-5 Farms and gather a full stack of Logs, Twigs and Cut Grass in my Chest when it is in autumn. Then you have enough resources to light up your base and your stomach at the beginning of the winter.
Then you can craft some Traps to catch rabbit later, and also I usually don't pick Berries unless necessary, because these berries can be your emergency reserve in Winter.
In my experiance. Not sure if you'd want to take my advice or not. But I don't pick berries or carrots unless nessisary. But for winter, if you catch rabbits or make bunny muffs or a thermal stone. One of either I find to be sufficiant. With the thermal stone, if it cools down to yellow. and if you quickly reheat it to red, it will last the whole winter at 100%. My survival technique though, is get a lot of flint beforehand, catch and kill bunnies for morsels. And crockpot it with 3 ice. 1 morsel + 3 ice = meatball. Which will be almost an entire day of food.
I'm going to write a script to block replying to old comments (1 year?). The reply button will disappear. Any objections?
I've looked for an existing one in dev.wikia, but there doesn't seem to be one.
It is done, finally. The JS is in review (unless it is approved by the time you see this), but you can get a sneak preview by enabling test mode from Special:JSPages. There is a CSS class entry (.DSWOldCommentWarning) to control the style of the warning, which allows changing it without JS review process. Let me know if you notice anything odd/unexpected.
