Nitre is a mineral resource obtained by mining smooth Boulders, which will drop at least one (along with other minerals) upon being mined. It also occasionally falls during underground Earthquakes. It can be used to craft Gunpowder.
In the Reign of Giants DLC, it can be used to make Endothermic Fires, Endothermic Fire Pits and the Morning Star. Endothermic Fires can also be refueled with Nitre. Nitre can also be obtained by digging up a Moleworm's Burrow.
In the Shipwrecked DLC, Nitre can also be obtained by digging a Magma Pile. Gold-flecked Magma Piles will drop Gold Nuggets instead of Nitre. Unlike Boulders, magma piles do not have a preset number of Nitre to drop, instead, each item dropped has an independent chance to be Nitre. Therefore, there is a small chance get no Nitre, and a very small chance to get 9 Nitre from a Magma Pile.
Don't Starve TogetherEdit
- Nitre was added in the A Little Rain Must Fall update.
- Nitre was changed to be dropped by the small, smooth boulder in The End of the Beginning update.
- Nitre, a.k.a. Saltpeter (Potassium Nitrate, KNO₃), is a common ingredient in creating gunpowder in the real world. It is also an ingredient in fertilizer, although it cannot be used as fertilizer in game.
